Importance of value education in schools

 IMPORTANCE OF VALUE EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS

Abstract

This research paper delves  into the crucial role of value education in schools ,arguing for its essential integration into the core curricula.Value education aims to develop thoughtful compassionate students with strong morals.value education is" training of the heart" and consist of developing the right feelings and emotions.Radhakrishna commission held the view that an important task of education is inculcation of values.The ultimate objective of value education is to enable individuals to lead happy,fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society.As part of BE.d curriculum I was allotted a school for teaching practice.l have to take two classes based on values such as honesty and helping mentality. Through my study I could find out that teaching values is key to preparing students to be good ,smart,and active member of society. 

INTRODUCTION.

Value education aims to develop thoughtful compassionate students with strong morals. Unlike regular academics,value education focuses on transforming students personality ans character.It strives to develop core human values like honesty ,empathy,cooperation,that will guide students throughout life.value education is " training of the heart"and consist of developing the right feelings and emotions.It is a training to question,explore,clarify,and understand our own values,beliefs,attitudes and customs.

Several educationist in india and abroad  have stressed the Importance of promoting values through education.Radhakridhna commission held the view that on important task of education is inculcating values .Kothari commission (1964-1966) with its emphasis on educators role in national development includes among the function of higher education. Cultivation of right interest ,attitudes,and morals and intellectual values.The National policy on educational,1986 observe that "there is a growing concern over the erosion of essential Values and increasing cynicism in society". The values emphasized include honesty,respect,empathy patience, compassion methods used include stories ,discussions,role playing and community service. The goal is to help students internalize values into life long habits.value education aim to promote and instill positive values and traits in individuals . The ultimate objective of value education is to enable individual too lead happy,fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society.

Value educational is crucial for shaping The personality and outlook of students and helping them become responsible citizens.Through value education we can develop strong character and values among children there by enabling them to use their knowledge for the benefit of all.Therefor, school and other educational institutions are realising the significance of value education and ate making it an intrinsic part of their curriculum. 

METHODOLOGY

Value education teaches us to preserve what ever is good and worthwhile ,in what we have inherited from our culture.According to our curriculum we have to take 2 education classes.I was allotted a school for teaching practice.l selected respect and helping mentality for value education class.Our school induction is started on august 7,2023 and end in November 30th.

Value education class 1: Respect

Planing

As a part of our BE.d curriculum we have to take two value education classes.I select the topics respect and helping mentality.so I prepared a lesson plan and learning materials as per the instruction of our teacher. I prepared a activity card and ppt for class.l took the classes for 8th standard students.

Execution

I started a class with asking question,when the teacher comes to the class, what will you do.They responded the question.Then I introduced the topic respect to the class.Then in the first activity l will explain a situation.The situation is ,we are travelling in a bus.And suddenly a old man comes  into the bus what will you do.All students are responded to the question.Then in the next activity teacher gives a activity card including some situations and asked the students to find out the respectful situations.Then in the next activity I will show a picture of different culture ,and explain the importance of respecting others culture,religion etc.The last activity was to make s poster about respect.

Evaluation

Students were interested as it was something different from their regular classs.Through this class I understood that encouraging respect in our classroom also promotes values,equity an inclusion.  Another benefit of respect is that it encourages individuality.Because the presence of respect creates acceptance.children are more likely to feel confident and express themselves freely.

Value education class 2: Helping mentality

Planning 

The second topic of value education was helping mentality.so I prepared a lesson plan and learning materials as per the instruction of our teacher.l prepared a ppt and activity cards.

Execution

I started a class with a story.students are very interested to listen the story.And then I introduce the story the value helping mentality.Then I shows a picture about 2018 flood and explain The situations and helping of others.The idea or helping others without seeking profit was imported to the children.The next activity I will explain a situation of road crossing a blind person .And asked the students to what will you do in that situation.All students are responded. Then I explain the helping of other persons in a situations.Then next shows some pictures about helping situations and convey the message of helping others.In the last activity students share their experiences .Helping others improve social interactions,and self esteem.It is essential to develop helping mentality in childrens.

Evaluation

Through this class I understand that helping others can also improve our support network and encourage us to be more active.Thus in turn ,can improve self esteem, serving others is good for our mental health ,our   emotions well being.


CONCLUSION

Value education is a process of helping the individuals to think freely and critically to act responsibly and with courage and conviction.Value education is a planned educational action aimed at the development of proper attitudes, values,emotions,and behaviour pattern of the learner.Value education plays a important role in personality development.Education will be incomplete if it didn't involve the study of human values.In today's world, there are Several moral crises taking place, the need for Value education is essential.It is an essential element of whole person education which aims at fostering students proper values and attitudes Through the learning .

Through this classes l understand that teaching values encourages positive character traits such as honesty ,respect ,kindness etc.A teacher not only makes every student knowledgeable but better human being with all the moral values.l understand that teachers can develop values in children.Through my study l find out that teaching values is key to preparing students to be good,smart and active members of society.
